CODE Launches STRACE Project to Boost Immunization in Sokoto

Connected Development (CODE), in collaboration with UNICEF, the Sultan Foundation, and the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency, launched the Sokoto Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunization (STRACE) project in Sokoto, Nigeria. This initiative aims to tackle the zero-dose immunization challenge by focusing on seven Local Government Areas identified as having a high burden of unvaccinated children.

The project is supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, through its Civil Society Organization Engagement Mechanism, which aims to enhance the delivery of routine immunization services in underserved communities. Mukhtar Modibbo, a CODE official, stated that the project will utilize the Follow The Money accountability methodology to monitor vaccine delivery and service quality.

Community ownership is a key aspect, with traditional and religious leaders engaged to promote vaccine uptake and counter misinformation. The project will establish tracking mechanisms to ensure transparency in vaccine distribution, with findings made public to promote accountability.

Addressing the zero-dose gap is deemed critical for Nigeria's health security.
