Nigeria's Government Targets Maritime Sector Growth

The federal government of Nigeria is committed to unlocking the potential of the maritime domain to drive employment, investment, and economic diversification. Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, made this statement during the 18th International Maritime Seminar for Judges organized by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) in Abuja.

He stressed that investor confidence hinges on the judiciary's ability to resolve commercial disputes promptly and transparently. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr.

Adegboyega Oyetola, noted that the seminar's theme, ‘Advancing Maritime Justice, Strengthening Global Trade,’ reflects the critical link between a robust legal framework and a thriving maritime economy. He argued that infrastructural development and policy reforms must be supported by a trustworthy legal system.

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, emphasized the value of judicial seminars for sharing experiences and addressing common legal challenges in maritime justice.
