Colombia Recognizes Morocco's Sovereignty Over Sahara

On Friday, during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, and the Vice-President of Colombia, Mr. José Manuel Restrepo, Colombia announced its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. This statement was confirmed by Morocco’s foreign ministry.

Mr. Omar Bula Escobar, the Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed this new position, indicating a significant shift in Colombia's stance on the issue. Mr. Restrepo described this recognition as marking “a new beginning” for diplomatic ties between Colombia and Morocco, emphasizing that Morocco is “Colombia’s first ally in Africa.” He also expressed Colombia's commitment to establishing a strategic partnership with Morocco, highlighting the importance of this development in international relations.
