Colombia Recognizes Morocco's Sovereignty Over Sahara

Colombia has announced a significant change in its foreign policy regarding the Sahara issue by recognizing the Kingdom of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces. This new position was disclosed during a meeting on Friday between José Manuel Restrepo, the Vice-President of Colombia, and Omar Bula Escobar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, alongside Moroccan officials.

Mr. Bula Escobar confirmed Colombia's recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, indicating a new orientation in Colombia's stance on this matter.

Vice-President Restrepo emphasized that this recognition represents "a new beginning" for the diplomatic relationship between Colombia and Morocco, stating that Morocco is "Colombia’s first ally in Africa." He also expressed Colombia's commitment to establishing a strategic partnership with Morocco, highlighting the importance of this development in international relations.
