Colorado Democrats Censure Governor Polis Over Commutation

Peters was convicted of four felonies and three misdemeanors related to election tampering, receiving a nine-year prison sentence.

The party's leadership expressed outrage, asserting that Polis's actions were influenced by political pressure from Donald Trump and that they send a harmful message regarding electoral integrity. Polis defended his decision, stating that the original sentence was disproportionate to Peters' actual crimes.

Eric Maruyama, a spokesperson for the governor, criticized the party's censure as an act of censorship and emphasized the importance of open debate within democracy. The censure includes a ban on Polis from acting as an honored guest or keynote speaker at party-sponsored events, reflecting the party's disapproval of his actions and the perceived threat to electoral security posed by Peters.
