Commission Warns Against Fake News in Nigeria's Media

The Commission, led by Director General Dr. Sey Oyeley, has issued a warning against the proliferation of fake news, highlighting its potential to undermine public trust and fuel division within the nation. During a visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council at Cocoa House, Ibadan, Oyeley urged journalists to maintain professional ethics and resist the temptation to amplify misinformation.

He stressed that the media plays a critical role in nation-building and must promote accurate and balanced reporting. Oyeley also expressed concern over recent incidents, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in the Oriir local government area of Oyo State, describing these events as tragic and unacceptable.

He announced plans to deepen engagement with journalists through media awards, annual lectures, training programs, and strategic partnerships aimed at addressing emerging challenges in the region. Additionally, he reiterated the Commission's readiness to support capacity building for journalists, particularly in digital media development.
