COAS Calls for Media Collaboration Against Fake News

During a workshop held on Tuesday in Abuja, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, called on media practitioners to assume a frontline role in the battle against fake news, misinformation, and disinformation. He warned that controlling the information space is critical for national security and military success.

The workshop, organized by the Army Public Relations, aimed to strengthen communication strategies between the military and media professionals. Shaibu highlighted the need for collaboration to counter false narratives and protect public trust, noting that accurate reporting is essential for military operations.

He also commended Colonel Appolonia Anel for her efforts in enhancing the Army's communication architecture and acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of military strategies. The workshop provided a platform for exchanging ideas and developing strategies to combat misinformation, which has become increasingly sophisticated and threatens national stability.
