Delta Education Commissioner Denies Role in Official's Death

Tension has enveloped the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education and the Prof. Chike Edosie Secretariat in Asaba after the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the ministry. Reports allege that Adeda was assaulted during a confrontation involving Commissioner for Secondary Education Kingsley Ashibogwu, his police orderly, and driver.

Ashibogwu denied any involvement in the assault. A family member confirmed Adeda's death but stated they had not received a full account of the events.

Sources claim the altercation began when Ashibogwu asked Adeda if he knew him, to which Adeda replied negatively. Following this, Ashibogwu allegedly ordered his orderly and driver to beat Adeda, who later fell into a coma and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, where he died.

It was also reported that Adeda had recently been redeployed from the ministry's field office and had a disagreement with the Director of Examinations, who allegedly contacted the commissioner regarding the matter.
