Commonwealth Fencing Championships Boosted by Lagos Summit

The Commonwealth Fencing Championships are set to gain significant support following an investment summit held in Lagos. The event was attended by prominent figures including Mr.

Rachael Samuel, who emphasized the opportunities presented by the championships for sports development and infrastructure growth. The summit, organized in conjunction with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), brought together government officials, investors, diplomats, and business leaders to discuss strategies for economic growth and strengthening global partnerships.

Key attendees included Lord Jonathan Marland, CWEIC Chairman; Samantha Cohen, Chief Executive Officer; Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor; Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor; and Mr.

Folashade Ambrose-Medebem of the Nigerian Fencing Federation. The discussions focused on attracting strategic partnerships and sponsorships to enhance sports infrastructure and expand opportunities for young athletes, including plans to introduce disabled fencing at major international competitions in Africa.

The stakeholders believe that the championships will elevate fencing in Nigeria and Africa, showcasing the sport as a vehicle for economic growth and social inclusion.
