Foreign-Based Boxers Arrive for Nigeria's Boxing Trials

The Nigeria Boxing Federation has confirmed the arrival of several foreign-based Nigerian boxers in Lagos ahead of the national open trials, which are set to take place from March 1-6, 2026, at the Brai Ayonot Boxing Complex in the National Stadium. This event is part of the preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Omonlei Imadu, described this development as a positive turning point for the sport, emphasizing the federation's commitment to transparency and fairness in the selection process. The trials will provide an equal platform for both home-based and foreign-based boxers, featuring ten weight categories across men's and women's divisions.

The event will also include joint seminars and coaching sessions aimed at strengthening the domestic boxing ecosystem. Additionally, the federation plans to unveil new digital initiatives to enhance governance and athlete management.

The week will honor the legacy of Nigerian boxing legend Hogan Kid Bassey.
