Media Group Urges FG to Lower Petrol Prices Below N1,000

The Muslim Media Watch Group Nigeria, represented by its national coordinator Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called on the federal government to compel petroleum marketers to reduce the pump price of petrol to below N1,000 per liter. This request follows a significant drop in global oil prices, which the group argues should reflect in local pricing.

The statement highlighted that there is no justification for maintaining petrol prices above N1,000 per liter, especially after a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, which has influenced oil prices. The group described the ongoing high fuel costs as insensitive and harmful to Nigerians, noting that petrol and diesel prices directly affect transportation costs and the overall cost of living.

They urged the federal government to direct the market to revert to pre-war prices of N700 per liter and requested the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment to act on this matter without delay to alleviate economic hardship.
