FG and Dangote Refinery Discuss Petrol Price Reductions

On a recent Monday, the Federal Government of Nigeria convened a high-level meeting with key players in the downstream petroleum industry to develop a framework aimed at reducing the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). This initiative comes in response to the declining global crude oil prices, which have intensified pressure for cheaper fuel across the country.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Abuja, included representatives from Dangote Refinery, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and various petroleum marketers' associations. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, instructed the petroleum market to adjust pump prices to reflect the sustained decline in international crude oil prices.

Lokpobiri emphasized the need for consensus among industry stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian consumers benefit from moderate global oil prices while maintaining a stable downstream petroleum market. Chief Executive of NMDPRA, Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, engaged in promoting cost-reflective pricing practices.
