COPAC Urges Leaders to Denounce Injustice in El-Rufai Case

The Coalition for Political Action Committee (COPAC) has called on notable opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to speak out against perceived injustices in the case of Nasir El-Rufai. The coalition expressed concern over attempts to harass and intimidate political opponents, warning that the federal government should not suspend the rule of law in Nigeria.

They highlighted a 14-day remand order obtained for investigations involving El-Rufai, which they argue should be strictly temporary and within a defined constitutional timeframe. COPAC's spokesperson, Aminu Datti Ahmad, emphasized that any detention outside of clearly defined legal options constitutes an abuse of state power and violates constitutional rights.

The coalition stressed the importance of political leaders not remaining silent, as history shows the dangers of state power being used selectively against opponents.
