COREN and BCPG Inspect Lagos Testing Labs for Quality Assurance

Technical experts from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) conducted an inspection of 12 accredited materials testing laboratories in Lagos State. This initiative aimed to strengthen quality assurance in the construction industry and mitigate building failures.

The inspection focused on evaluating operational standards of the laboratories responsible for testing construction materials. Engr.

Mrs. Olayinka Abdul, General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, stated that this effort is part of ongoing initiatives to enhance materials testing standards.

The COREN delegation included Engr. Olayinka Alli, Engr.

Dr. Mojirade Oloruntoba, and Engr.

Tomide Akinnawo, who emphasized the importance of professionalism in testing and certification. Engr.

Prof. Ewaen Ikponmwosa from BCPG highlighted the necessity of regular evaluations of testing laboratories, particularly private ones, to ensure compliance with international standards.

Engr. Ebenezer Ologuntoye noted that the inspection is crucial for regulatory oversight in the geotechnical sector, particularly regarding sub-soil investigations required for building plan approvals.
