Atiku Abubakar Accuses Tinubu of NBA Election Interference

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for alleged interference in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) elections. In a statement issued by Atiku's media office in Abuja, he claimed that the actions of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) are part of a strategy to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that the administration's attempts to impose a preferred candidate on the NBA threaten the integrity of the electoral process. Atiku's statement referenced media reports suggesting that government agents pressured the NBA to accept a favored candidate, which he described as a dangerous precedent that could destabilize democratic institutions.

He emphasized that the conduct of the NBA elections is the sole responsibility of the Electoral Committee of the NBA, and any interference would be unconstitutional. The ADC candidate also noted that the NBA must remain independent and not subject to government control.
