Inquest into Chimamanda Adichie's Son's Death Begins April 2026

The coroner's inquest into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi Eseg, son of renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is set to begin on April 14, 2026, at the Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos. The child was initially admitted to Atlantic Hospital on January 6, 2026, for mild illness but was later transferred to Euracar, where his condition reportedly worsened.

The parents allege medical negligence and professional misconduct related to the circumstances of his death. During preliminary proceedings, Prof.

Kemi Pinheiro, representing the family, announced plans to call five independent medical experts, including specialists in anaesthesia and paediatrics. The court, presided over by Magistrate Atinuk Adetunji, emphasized the importance of an autopsy as a starting point for the inquest.

The family has accused the medical personnel of breaching their duty of care, and the court has directed Euracar to preserve all relevant electronic evidence. The inquest aims to determine the cause of death and address the allegations of gross medical negligence.
