Panel Finds Negligence in Death of Chimamanda's Son

A panel from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has found a prima facie case of negligence against three doctors involved in the death of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's 21-month-old son, Master Nkanu Adichie Eseg. The investigation was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged on January 16, 2026.

The doctors implicated are Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, the medical director at Euracar Multi Specialist Hospital; Dr.

Titu Ogundar, an anaesthesiologist at Euracar; and Dr. Atinuk Uwajeh, the chief medical director at Atlantic Paediatric Hospital.

Following the panel's findings during its 25th session held in Abuja on February 17-18, 2026, the MDCN issued an interim suspension order against the three practitioners pending the outcome of formal disciplinary proceedings. Additionally, the panel identified professional misconduct involving ten practitioners at Atlantic Paediatric Hospital, referring the case to the disciplinary tribunal for a formal hearing.

The child's parents, through solicitor Kemi Pinheiro, have requested detailed medical reports regarding the circumstances surrounding their son's treatment and death.
