INEC Plans to Deploy 1.4 Million Ad Hoc Staff for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, revealed plans to deploy no fewer than 1.4 million ad hoc staff for the 2027 general elections, highlighting the essential role of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Nigeria's electoral process.

Olakunl Nafiu at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja, Amupitan acknowledged that corps members have been integral to the electoral process since the return to democratic rule in 1999. He noted that for the 2023 elections, nearly 850,000 of the 1.2 million ad hoc staff were drawn from corps members.

For the upcoming elections, 707,384 ad hoc staff will be required for the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and for the governorship and house assembly elections on February 6, 2027. Amupitan stated that corps members account for nearly 90% of registered area officers and praised their contributions to ensuring credible elections.
