Court Adjourns N14.5bn Suit Against Prof. Barth Nnaji

The Enugu State High Court has adjourned a N14.5 billion lawsuit filed against former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, until June 3, 2026.

The case, mentioned on Tuesday, involves allegations made by Okechukwu Nnaji regarding the demolition of properties belonging to members of the Nkomoro Onuogba Community. Justice Veronica Ajogwu presided over the session, which was primarily for the regularization of court processes.

Mr. Benjamin Nwobodo, representing the defense, indicated that the matter was adjourned to allow the defense to file a statement of defense and a motion seeking an extension of time.

The dispute dates back to 2001 and involves claims of property ownership, with a judgment delivered in 2013 favoring the original owner, Alinta. The plaintiffs, consisting of 25 members of the community, are seeking compensation for demolished properties, including buildings and personal belongings, and are also requesting a declaration of their rights to the ancestral land.
