Respondents Seek Settlement in Nnaji Legal Suit

Respondents in the legal suit involving Geoffrei Nnaji are pursuing an out-of-court settlement as procedural delays persist. The case, which has drawn public interest due to its implications for institutional transparency and accountability, was discussed in court on February 26, 2026.

Dr. Robert Ngwu, serving as special advisor, represented the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, while Opeyemi Muritala led the legal team for Nnaji.

The court, presided over by Justice H.J. Yilwa, has adjourned the matter to July 8, 2026, to allow the parties to explore settlement options.

The respondents confirmed that discussions for a possible settlement had taken place, but the first and second respondents indicated they had not previously discussed any settlement terms. The suit seeks to compel the release of complete academic records from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has been ongoing for four decades, highlighting significant procedural deficiencies.
