Court Adjourns N14.5bn Suit Against Ex-Minister Nnaji

The Enugu State High Court has scheduled a continuation of the N14.5 billion lawsuit against former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, for June 3.

The lawsuit, presided over by Justice Veronica Ajogwu, involves allegations from the Nkomoro Onuogba Community that Nnaji unlawfully demolished various properties. The legal action was initiated by 25 representatives of the community seeking compensation for the destruction of ancestral land and assets.

Plaintiff's lawyer, Mr. Peter Igw, requested additional time to review the defense's documents, which had been submitted late.

Defense counsel, Mr. Benjamin Nwobodo, did not oppose the request.

Nwobodo argued that the community's claims regarding land ownership were settled in a 2013 court judgment, asserting that the land belonged to an individual named Alinta, who had transferred interest to Nnaji. The plaintiffs are also seeking damages for the loss of 11 two-storey buildings, six three-storey buildings, 93 duplexes, and 170 bungalows, totaling N7 billion, along with N3.4 billion for stolen items.
