Nnaji Seeks Settlement in UNN Certificate Dispute

Former Minister Nnaji is seeking an out-of-court settlement in a legal dispute with the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) concerning allegations of a forged degree certificate. The suit was filed in October 2025 following an investigation that raised concerns about the authenticity of his academic credentials, specifically a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

Nnaji's counsel, Muritala, informed the court about the ongoing settlement discussions, prompting a request for an adjournment to facilitate talks. The court, presided over by Judge Hauwa Yilwa, declined to consider the application for settlement due to procedural challenges, including service process issues and preliminary objections regarding jurisdiction.

The case has been adjourned to July 8, 2025, for a full hearing. A federal government investigation panel found that Nnaji did not graduate in the 1981/82 academic session and was not listed among graduates in 1985, raising further concerns about the legitimacy of his purported certificate dated July 1985.
