Court Admits AK-47 and Naira Notes in Yelwata Trial

On February 2, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, admitted an AK-47 rifle and several naira notes as evidence in the trial concerning the Yelwata massacre that occurred on June 13, 2025, in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The prosecution, led by Mose Paul, a senior officer from the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Unit, identified the firearm, and a ballistic report confirmed its status.

Nine defendants, including Ardo Lawal, Moham Dono, and others, were arraigned on 57 counts of terrorism, allegedly involved in the attack that claimed approximately 150 lives. The court heard testimonies regarding the defendants' involvement, including financial contributions to the attack and meetings held to coordinate efforts.

The trial was adjourned to March 13, 2025, to address objections regarding the admissibility of certain statements made by the defendants during police investigations.
