Court Confirms Forfeiture of $13M Linked to Aisha Achimugu

On Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed the final forfeiture of $13 million traced to Aisha Achimugu, ruling that the funds were proceeds of financial crime. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had initiated the suit against Ocean Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd, which claimed the funds were a gift.

Justice Nwite dismissed this claim, stating that no individual had provided such a monetary gift to Achimugu. The court noted that the burden of proving genuine ownership of the funds was not met.

The EFCC's investigation revealed that Ocean Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd was involved in suspicious financial activities, including transactions that raised concerns about the legitimacy of the funds. The court had previously granted an interim order for the forfeiture of the funds on August 22, 2025, directing that interested parties show cause within 14 days why the funds should not be permanently forfeited to the government.
