Court Orders Final Forfeiture of $13M Linked to Achimugu

On Wednesday, August 22, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, ordered the final forfeiture of $13 million associated with Aisha Achimugu's company, Oceang Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed a motion for the final forfeiture of the funds, asserting that neither Achimugu nor her company could demonstrate that the money was obtained legitimately.

Justice Nwite dismissed arguments presented by Oceang's lawyer, Darlington Ozurumba, who claimed the $13 million was a gift earned by Achimugu through her oil-related contacts. The court ruled that the arguments lacked substantial material facts and described the EFCC's position as legally sound.

The court's decision reflects its agreement with the EFCC's interpretation of relevant laws, including the Advance Fee Fraud Act of 2006, and concluded that the arguments against the forfeiture were baseless.
