Motorist Convicted for Assaulting FRSC Marshal, Fined ₦1M

On a Wednesday, a magistrate court in Wuse, Abuja, convicted 26-year-old Atada Victor for assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshal during a routine traffic enforcement operation in the Federal Capital Territory. The court found Victor guilty of dangerous driving, violating traffic laws, and assaulting the FRSC personnel while attempting to evade arrest.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM when Victor, driving a vehicle with registration number RBC 398 DQ, was flagged down by the FRSC patrol team. Instead of complying, he allegedly accelerated, knocking down the marshal and causing serious injuries.

The court sentenced him to two weeks of community service and ordered him to pay ₦1.08 million in compensation, which includes ₦580,000 for damage to the patrol vehicle and ₦500,000 for medical expenses incurred by the injured marshal. FRSC spokesperson Osondu Ohaeri confirmed the judgment, emphasizing the need for motorists to cooperate with law enforcement.
