Nigerian Court Declares Police 'Wanted' Notice on Lawyer Illegal

The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, declared the Nigeria Police Force's 'wanted' notice on lawyer Emmanuel Chinyer Orji unconstitutional. The court ruled that the police acted beyond their constitutional and statutory powers by declaring Orji wanted without obtaining a court order.

Orji's counsel, led by Edwin Anikwem and Yinka Muyiwa, successfully argued that the action violated Orji's fundamental rights. The court ordered the Inspector General of Police to retract the notice and issue a public apology to Orji.
