Court to Rule on ADC Leadership Case Recusal June 16

The Federal High Court in Abuja, under the jurisdiction of Justice Peter Lifu, has set June 16 as the date to rule on an application seeking the recusal of the judge in a case challenging the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The application was filed by Nafiu Bala Gomb, who is contesting the party's leadership structure.

The ADC has opposed the suit, which previously reached the Supreme Court, directing the trial court to expedite the hearing of the pending application. Justice Lifu was assigned to the case after it was transferred from Justice Emeka Nwite, who had adjourned proceedings indefinitely.

The court is considering various applications, including one alleging bias in favor of the ADC leadership. Counsel for Gomb, Robert Emukporo, has requested the court to dismiss the recusal application, asserting that there is no evidence to support the allegations.

The ruling on whether to continue handling the case or withdraw will be made on June 16.
