Court to Hear Suit on Lagos TUC Chairman's Suspension

The National Industrial Court (NIC) has set October 29, 2026, to hear a lawsuit contesting the suspension of Biodun Aladetan, the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC). Aladetan was suspended in February 2026 by the TUC's national leadership, which alleged anti-union activities and insubordination.

The suit, filed by Aladetan, seeks a court declaration that his suspension is unlawful, null, and void, and requests an order for his reinstatement. Additionally, it aims to restrain the TUC national leadership from appointing a caretaker committee to oversee the council's affairs while the case is pending.

Aladetan's counsel, Joseph Oput, argued that the suspension violated the union's constitutional provisions and failed to comply with principles of due process and fair hearing, asserting that the disciplinary action taken against Aladetan is unconstitutional and should be set aside by the court.
