Makinde Calls Nigeria's Political Climate Toxic for Opposition

On Friday, Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, warned that Nigeria's political climate is toxic for opposition parties as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Makinde stressed that the outcome of the 2027 elections must reflect the wishes of the electorate, asserting that the people will not be suppressed.

He described the current political environment as one of the darkest periods in Nigeria's history but expressed optimism for a new political dawn. Makinde highlighted the importance of addressing electoral malpractice to ensure that the voices of Nigerians are heard.

He also noted the recent security challenges in Oyo State, emphasizing the need for collaboration among state security agencies. The meeting aimed to discuss the challenges facing the opposition parties, particularly the People's Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
