Court Approves Service of N5bn Defamation Suit to Okonkwo

The Anambra State High Court in Onitsha granted Peter Obi approval to serve Kenneth Okonkwo with legal documents related to a N5 billion defamation lawsuit. This ruling, made by Justice Onyefulu on June 30, 2026, followed an ex parte application filed by Obi.

The court allowed the writ of summons and accompanying processes to be served at Okonkwo's last known residence in Nsukka, Enugu State. Obi's legal team, led by Chief Alex Ejesiem, accused Okonkwo of making damaging statements during a television interview that could harm Obi's reputation.

Obi demanded a public apology and retraction of the statements made on June 8, 2026, during an appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily program. Okonkwo denied the allegations and maintained that his comments were based on legitimate complaints.

Obi's lawsuit seeks N5 billion in damages for what he describes as false and malicious statements that portray him as corrupt and dishonest.
