Court Allows Probe of Tunji-Ojo's WAEC Certificate

On a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, granted activist Emorioloy Owolemi the permission to investigate the authenticity of Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo's secondary school certificate allegedly issued by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Owolemi's application highlighted discrepancies in the academic claims of the minister.

However, a separate application seeking to probe the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate of Tunji-Ojo was declined by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, who ruled that Owolemi failed to demonstrate that the inquiry served public interest. Owolemi's legal counsel, Philemon Yakubu SAN, filed the motion ex parte under Order 34 of the Federal High Court Civil Rules 2019 and Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011.

The request included detailed records related to Tunji-Ojo's NYSC service year, including monthly clearance records and financial details. The court's decision reflects ongoing concerns regarding transparency and accountability in public office.
