Court Orders Investigation into Minister Tunji-Ojo's Qualifications

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a request to investigate the academic qualifications of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The ruling, made by Justice Binta Nyako, follows an application filed by activist Emorioloy Owolemi, who raised concerns about the minister's secondary school certificate, reportedly issued by the West African Examinations Council.

The court agreed that the inquiry is necessary due to public interest surrounding the claims of inconsistencies in the minister's academic history. However, the court denied a second request to link the minister's records to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.

Justice Joyc Abdulmalik dismissed this application, stating that the activist failed to demonstrate that the request was strictly in the public interest as required by law. The activist's lawyer, Philemon Yakubu SAN, indicated that they would consult with their client regarding the next steps, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in public office.

The court's approval for the academic certificate probe means that the investigation into the minister's WAEC records will proceed through legal channels.
