Court Orders Inquiry into Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo's Qualifications

On a recent date, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, granted activist Mr. Emorioloy Owolemi permission to inquire into the academic qualifications of the current Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

This inquiry specifically targets the secondary school certificate issued by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), based on claims of discrepancies in the Minister's academic qualifications. In a separate ruling, Justice Joyc Abdulmalik denied a similar request from Owolemi regarding the Minister's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.

The activist's lead counsel, Mr. Philemon Yakubu, argued for the inquiry under the Federal High Court Civil Rule 2019 and the Freedom of Information Act 2011, seeking various documents related to the Minister's NYSC service, including monthly clearance records and details of alleged abscondment.

Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the application did not indicate a public interest requirement. Following this, Mr.

Yakubu stated that he would consult with his client to determine the next steps in the legal battle for transparency among public office holders.
