Abuja Court Grants DSS Request to Fast-track Ansaru Leader's Terrorism Trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Department of State Services (DSS) request to expedite the terrorism trial of Khalid, the alleged mastermind of the 2011 UN building bombing, and four others. The accused are facing terrorism charges as members of the proscribed Ansaru group.

The DSS argued for accelerated hearing to ensure a swift resolution, which was unopposed by the defense. The trial involves video evidence to prove the voluntariness of confessional statements.

Khalid and his co-defendants are also linked to other terrorist activities, including a 2012 prison break. Khalid was previously designated a global terrorist by the US with a $5 million bounty on his head.

The case is adjourned for continuation in October.
