Court Allows El-Rufai Medical Treatment in ICPC Custody

On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Kaduna ruled that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai could receive medical treatment while in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). Justice Rilwan Aikawa presided over the matter, allowing El-Rufai access to dental and eye treatment due to health concerns raised during the proceedings.

The court directed that El-Rufai be escorted to medical facilities in Abuja whenever necessary and that his movements for medical purposes remain closely monitored by the ICPC. El-Rufai, along with co-defendant Joel Adoga, faces ten counts related to alleged money laundering and possession of proceeds from corrupt activities, with charges filed under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) Prohibition Act 2022.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty. The court had previously granted El-Rufai bail of N200 million with two sureties, and the case has been adjourned until May 7, 2026, for further proceedings.
