Ekiti LG Vice Chairman Grace Ogunley on Trial for Kidnapping

Grace Ogunley, the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, is facing trial for allegedly orchestrating her own kidnapping. The case was heard at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti, where Ogunley stands trial alongside three defendants: Raheem Ganiyu, Sodiq Akored, and Fajuyi Adenik.

They were arraigned following a police investigation into the incident that reportedly occurred on May 20. Prosecutor Samson Osobu stated that evidence suggested Ogunley collaborated with the defendants to stage her abduction, which led to a police investigation after a report was lodged.

The charges against them contravene sections 279, 280, and 281 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered the defendants to be remanded in custody pending legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The case has generated significant public interest due to the unusual nature of the allegations involving a local government official.
