Ondo Police Arrest Self-Kidnapper and Accomplice

The Ondo State Police Command uncovered a self-kidnap scam involving Olawal Sikiru, who allegedly staged his own abduction to extort N1 million from his family. The case began on July 5, 2026, when Mr.

Iyabo reported that his 33-year-old son, Olawal Sikiru, had been kidnapped while traveling to Igbara-Oke for work. The Anti-Kidnap Unit swiftly launched an investigation, utilizing intelligence assets and forensic analysis of the phone number used to demand the ransom.

By July 7, 2026, police arrested Olawal Sikiru, who confessed to staging the kidnapping and deceiving his family into paying N50,000 as part of the ransom demand. Further investigations led to the arrest of Agbelusi Ayomid, 23, who allegedly provided shelter for Olawal during the fake kidnapping.

The police are continuing efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate involved in this criminal act, which could result in severe legal consequences for those participating in such schemes.
