Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Raping Niece in Lagos

Christoph Ajubi, a 48-year-old engineer, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the unlawful sexual intercourse with his wife’s 15-year-old niece. The ruling was made by Justice Abiola Soladoye at the Ikeja Judicial Division of the Lagos State High Court.

The offenses occurred repeatedly from 2016 until 2021, during which the victim, an orphan living with her aunt, was subjected to sexual abuse by Ajubi. The victim disclosed the abuse to her aunt, but it continued until she confided in a teacher at school in June 2021.

Following her disclosure, the teacher assisted her in reporting the matter. Ajubi was initially arraigned on charges of unlawful defilement and assault, to which he pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty as part of a plea bargain agreement.

The charges were in violation of sections 137 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
