Court Orders Forfeiture of Properties Linked to Malami

On Wednesday, Justice Joyc Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a final forfeiture order for over 40 properties associated with former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, following a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court found that the properties were acquired through unlawful activities, as the respondents failed to provide sufficient evidence to rebut the suspicions against them.

The court dismissed objections raised by Malami's family members and companies linked to the properties, stating that the claims lacked merit. The properties, which include various commercial and residential buildings across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna, were initially subject to an interim forfeiture order issued in January 2023.

The total value of the properties is estimated at N213.2 billion, with specific properties detailed in the court documents, including hotels, schools, and luxury duplexes.
