EFCC Forfeits ₦220 Billion in Properties Linked to Malami

On July 15, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained a final forfeiture order from Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, for 48 properties valued at over ₦220 billion linked to Abubakar Malami, SAN, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who is also a gubernatorial candidate for Kebbi State. The forfeited assets include Rayhaan University and various properties across Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi, such as luxury hotels, residential houses, and commercial plazas.

The court determined that these properties were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities. Malami and his associates contested the interim forfeiture order granted by Justice Emeka Nwite but were unsuccessful in their legal challenge.

The judicial process involved legal representation and arguments from both sides, leading to the final decision affirming the forfeiture.
