Court Orders Probe of Court Registrar and Defendant Over Alleged ₦10 Billion Fraud Evidence Tampering

In a significant legal development, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has directed the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to investigate a court registrar and a defendant, Daadu Sulaiman, for allegedly tampering with key evidence in an ongoing ₦10 billion trial. The court registrar purportedly confessed to deleting vital WhatsApp messages containing crucial information related to the case.

The judge granted the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, permission to have an investigative officer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission verify the deleted messages, including references to financial transactions. The defense expressed shock at the allegations and urged the court to await the investigation's outcome.

The matter has been adjourned to February 9, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
