Court Schedules Hearing for Sowore's Suit Against DSS

The court has overruled Omoyele Sowore's lawyer, Temokun, regarding a request for expedited proceedings in the suit against the Department of State Services (DSS) and Meta Platforms Inc. Sowore, who filed the suit, accused the DSS and Meta of unconstitutional censorship related to a post that called for President Bola Tinubu to be placed on a criminal list.

The presiding judge, Justice Umar, expressed surprise at the request for a speedy adjudication, noting that the matter is of significant public interest. The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 18, after previously dismissing Sowore's fundamental rights enforcement suit against the DSS and Meta on April 2, citing lack of merit and awarding costs of N1.5 million against Sowore.

The DSS's Director General, Oluwatosin Ajayi, and Akinlolu Kehind, representing the DSS, expressed a desire for a swift resolution, while Sowore's counsel did not object to the withdrawal of Meta's counter affidavit.
