Court Allows ICPC to Analyze Devices from El-Rufai's Home

On February 18, 2023, Justice Joyc Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) permission to access and analyze electronic devices recovered from the residence of former Kaduna State Governor El-Rufai. This ruling was delivered in response to an ex parte application filed by the ICPC's lawyer, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, who argued that the agency needed to inspect the devices for forensic examination and data extraction as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt practices committed by El-Rufai during his time in office.

The devices include various storage devices, mobile phones, and tablets. The investigation is linked to allegations of abuse of office and corruption, with the ICPC already having charged El-Rufai with wiretapping the phone lines of national security adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

The ICPC had previously conducted a search of El-Rufai's residence, leading to the recovery of these devices.
