Court Denies Ex-Senator's Bid to Join ADC Deregistration Suit

The court has dismissed Kalu Kalu Agu's motion to join a lawsuit that seeks to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for alleged violations of the Nigerian Constitution. The suit was initiated by former legislators, including members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Action Alliance (AA), who argue that the ADC has failed to meet the minimum electoral performance threshold required by law, specifically not securing at least 25 percent of votes in state elections.

Yakubu Abdullahi Ruba, the counsel for the original plaintiffs, opposed Agu's application, stating that he is not a member of the association and that his request to join the suit was unnecessary. The judge ruled that Agu's status as a former legislator does not automatically qualify him for membership in the plaintiff group.

Following this ruling, Agu withdrew his application, which was subsequently struck out. The matter has been adjourned to April 17, 2026.
