Court Rejects Nnamdi Kanu's Transfer Request from Sokoto Prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja rejected Nnamdi Kanu's request to transfer from Sokoto prison. Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had filed a motion seeking transfer due to irreconcilable differences.

The court struck down the motion, with the Legal Aid Council handling the matter applying to withdraw the case. Kanu was convicted of terrorism-related offenses in November 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Despite Kanu's plea for a transfer to a facility closer to the federal capital territory, the court ruled that the current custodial centers were suitable. The court commended the Legal Aid Council for upholding the dignity of the court and granted their request to withdraw the case.

No proof of service to relevant parties was provided, leading to the motion being deemed incompetent. The court directed all involved parties to serve notice of the last court sitting until the next hearing date.
