Retired DSS Officer Remanded for Supporting IPOB

Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, a retired officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), was arraigned on Thursday in the Federal High Court in Abuja on four counts related to terrorism. The charges include supporting the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) by joining the organization, posting supportive messages on social media, and inducing the public to join IPOB.

The DSS presented the case before Justice Muhammed Umar, stating that Ezeakolam's actions violated Sections 13, 25, and 26 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Ezeakolam pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Following this, the prosecution requested a trial date and sought to have him remanded in custody until the trial begins. Justice Umar scheduled the trial to commence on October 29 and ordered Ezeakolam to be held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
