Court Denies Injunction to Halt Kano Deputy Governor's Impeachment

The Federal High Court in Kano ruled against an ex parte application filed by Deputy Governor Abdussalam, who sought to stop impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly. The court, presided over by Judge M.

Shaibu, refused to grant the interim injunction requested by Abdussalam, stating that the application did not satisfy the legal conditions required for such an order. The court directed that the application be served to relevant parties to enable them to respond, with the case adjourned until April 16, 2026.

The impeachment process was announced on March 5, following allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust against Abdussalam, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The allegations include financial irregularities during his tenure and claims of receiving kickbacks amounting to N462 million, among other accusations.
