Court Ruling Offers PDP Chance to Rebuild, Says Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, commented on a court ruling that affirmed the nullification of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan. He explained that the judgment confirmed that the convention conducted in November 2025 did not comply with legal requirements, emphasizing that political parties must adhere to the law.

Wike noted that the court found necessary procedures were not followed, and the convention lacked proper notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He described the judgment as a significant moment for the PDP, reinforcing the importance of due process and the rule of law.

Wike urged party members to view the ruling as an opportunity to move forward and rebuild unity within the PDP. He stated that the party remains a strong opposition force in the country and is preparing to hold a fresh national convention on March 29-30, 2026, to elect new national officers, with the current caretaker committee managing affairs until then.
