PDP Governors and Wike Camp Initiate Reconciliation Talks

Following a court ruling that invalidated the People's Democratic Party (PDP) convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2023, PDP governors and Nyesom Wike's camp are moving towards reconciliation talks. The appeal court, led by Justice Moham Danjuma, affirmed the Federal High Court's decision that the convention violated the Electoral Act and the party's constitution.

In light of this, Wike's faction is exploring options to form a caretaker committee to unify the party and prevent its collapse ahead of the 2027 general elections. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has called for stakeholders to set aside personal interests to strengthen the party.

The discussions include a marathon meeting to finalize reconciliation modalities, with the aim of allowing the PDP to function effectively as an opposition party. The faction loyal to Wike is also seeking to ensure that the party can present candidates for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration among party members.
